We run small group lessons (around 6 dogs) with two trainers and volunteer handlers who can help distract reactive dogs so their people can listen to what they are learning. Dogs gradually settle and get used to working around other dogs. Our lessons are geared for beginner dogs (if your dog won’t hold a hand-signal only down stay while you walk around him squeaking a toy and eating a hot dog, he falls into the beginner category!). Our goal is to give you the tools to train your dog with consistency and positive reinforcement. We start with where your dog is working now, as every dog is at a different stage if training. We work on getting your dog to focus on you, sit, down, stay in both reinforcement zones and in new environments, and recall. The venue is large enough to allow ample distancing between dogs. This session of classes is being held at All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner.
Cost is $175.
Please note: ARC is a registered non-profit society and 100% of the money made from training classes and supporting rescue dogs goes back to the rescue. Our trainers volunteer their time and knowledge evenings and weekends while working full time jobs during the week. Our handlers are also volunteers. If you see a shelter dog in our classes, we are training that dog for free to help them find a forever home. We do, however, have to book and pay for facility rentals and cover the cost of training supplies. For this reason, we ask that you do not commit to attending a class unless you are sure you are able to attend. If you do need to cancel because of unforeseen circumstances, please let us know immediately so we can offer your spot to someone on the waiting list.
Cancellations within two weeks of the start of class or failure to pay an invoice on time can leave the rescue short of funds to cover operating expenses. If you’ve cancelled and then ask to be put on the list for the next set of classes, you may be asked to pre-pay in order to hold your place. This payment is non-refundable unless classes are cancelled by ARC. We love helping dogs create lifelong partnerships with their people. The dogs pay us with love, but we need your commitment and money to make our efforts possible.
