ARC posts all available pets on Petfinder. We can also help you find a pet by learning more about your activity level, lifestyle, and experience, then making suggestions and connecting you with other rescues that may have a pet that would be a good match. Please be aware that we do not match pets with guardians based on breed preferences. While breeds and breeding certainly influence a dog's purpose and drive, a specific breed does not guarantee a desired personality. There is a pet overpopulation problem in the world, so we focus on trying to help you find an animal that needs you and will fit in your family.
For many people, the hardest yet most responsible decision is the decision to re-home a beloved pet. Whether you have made this decision because of illness, a move, the death of a family member, or the inability to properly care for the pet, we can help by posting your pet on Petfinder, screening adoption applicants, conducting a home check and introduction, and providing follow-up support after the adoption.
We offer consultations, individual classes for puppy training, basic manners training, intermediate training, and behavioural problem solving. Small group lessons can also be arranged. Our trainer is a certified dog trainer and teacher with 20 years of experience with shelter and rescue dogs. She is absolutely horrible at cat training so don't even ask. Our goal is to help deserving dogs, cats, and small animals find good homes, and to give their guardians the support they need to provide the best care for their pets.
ARC created The Care Movie and support materials for elementary school educators (it is ideal for grades 3-7 but can be used with secondary grades as well). The hour-long movie encourages students and their families to make sure they have the time, money, and lifetime commitment necessary before they adopt a pet. CARE explores the requirements for different types of pets, discusses the life span of different species of pets, and encourages children to adopt instead of shop for a companion animal once they have decided whether their family is ready to be a pet guardian. We can also arrange for in-person presentations for local secondary schools on conference days, under the theme of social responsibility regarding the topic of the world-wide pet overpopulation problem and the need to make thoughtful choices about pet adoption and pet care. Please contact us for more details.
